EMO AND GOTH MUSIC TO BE MADE ILLEGAL IN RUSSIA?
According to
The Moscow Times, the Russian government is in the process of drafting a law to make emo and goth music illegal.
Last month a parliamentary committee was convened to discuss a draft proposal of the Russian government's "Government Strategy In The Sphere Of Spiritual And Ethical Education" bill, the details of which were leaked to
The Moscow Times. Among other measures, the proposed legislation calls for heavy regulation of emo web sites and for banning young people dressed like emos from entering schools and government buildings.
The bill also outlines what it calls a "spiritual and ethical crisis" facing Russian youth, including the high rate of alcohol abuse, teen abortions and "negative youth movements."
Emo ideology encourages and justifies drug use and sexual relations among minors, according to the bill, which also lumps emos and goths together with skinheads.
"The point of the bill is so that by 2020, Moscow will have someone to rule its government," said
Alexander Grishunin, an adviser to Public Chamber member
Yevgeny Yuryev, one of the bill's three coordinators. "This is the first step in the public discourse."
The bill's sponsors hope that it will be passed into law by the end of the year.

'THE DARK KNIGHT' HAS RECORD-SETTING OPENING WEEKEND
It was a record-setting weekend for The Dark Knight, which debuted atop the North American box office with an estimated $155.34 million, the Associated Press reports. The previous best for an opening weekend was the $151.1 million earned by Spider-Man 3 in May of last year. However, factoring in slightly higher ticket prices, Spidey 3 probably sold more individual tickets.
The Dark Knight also set a one-day record with the $67.85 it earned on Friday (July 18th). Spidey 3 had the previous one-day record with $59.8 million. The record for best debut in IMAX theaters also fell, with The Dark Knight taking in $6.2 million to Spider-Man 3's $4.7 million. Additionally, The Dark Knight made more on its opening day than three big summer hits, Hancock, WALL-E and Kung-Fu Panda, made in their respective opening weekends. It also made more money in its opening weekend than the previous top-three-opening Batman movies (Batman Forever, Batman Begins, Batman Returns) made in their opening weekends combined.
The Dark Knight added an additional $40 million to its box office total from 20 foreign markets, including Number One debuts in Ledger's native Australia and Mexico.

James Hetfield stated about the new album title, "
'Death Magnetic', at least the title, to me, it's… It had something to do with… It started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like
Layne Staley [
ALICE IN CHAINS] and a lot of the people that have died, basically — rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there. Thinking about death… some people are drawn towards it, and just like a magnet, some people are drawn towards it, [and] other people are afraid of it and push away. And the concept that we're all gonna die sometimes is over-talked about and then a lot of times never talked about — no one wants to bring it up; it's the big white elephant in the living room. But we all have to deal with it at some point. So that's kind of the subject matter."
James Hetfield: "I don't really have to say it, but I will — he's an amazing bass player; very competent. He can play pretty much anything we throw at him. Not only that, but obviously [
Robert] playing with his fingers brings a fuller sound. He — and no disrespect to
Jason [
Newsted,
Rob's predecessor in
METALLICA] — but
Rob has already written more on this album than
Jason had in his whole 14 years. A lot of that had to do with us not being willing, and I totally understand that, but just his material seemed to gel better. It feels as though we've known him forever, basically, is what it feels like. And there's still times when I see him in pictures with us, and I go, 'Oh, yeah! He's in our band. Dude, we kick ass even more now.' It's a good feeling."
METALLICA kicked off the second leg of its summer 2008 European tour Wednesday, July 16 at the Bergenhus Castle in Bergen, Norway.CLICK HERE to watch video footage from the concert!

Chris Cornell's New Single... Yay or Nay?

Chris Cornell's third solo album was produced by mega producer Timberland. Even though the song will more than likely be a huge hit on top 40 radio... I question if this was a good idea or not for Chris.
