On Air Details
I just want to make clear that I am not responsible for this page's basic layout. What does "On Air Details" mean? That sounds like I'm cleaning the bathrooms while the songs are playing.
I guess it means to write something about myself. Okay, here goes:
People always ask: "How come I always hear listeners saying, 'You suck, Jay Gilbert?' How did that get started? I don't think you suck, because if I did I wouldn't listen and I'd never hear people saying, 'You suck, Jay Gilbert.' Where did that come from?"
It's a long story, let's just say that it wasn't something I planned. But in the biz they always say that it helps if you have some kind of slogan that people can remember you by, like "Heere's Johnny," or "OmyGod, they killed Kenny." So I live with it.
Can I go now?
One more thing: If you should see an ad just below this paragraph, it is generated by the corporate webmasters, and I personally have no control over what is showing. Jay''s been perpetrating the radio for more years than anyone here can count, because we can only count to 10. (20 if our shoes are off, and 21 if we're naked)
One of these days we'll look up "perpetrating" to see if that's a word the FCC still allows.
Jay's hung around here in one capacity or another for over 20 years. His knowledge of music trivia is staggering. (This could explain why many WEBN employees stagger.)
His on-air comments and song parodies have provided WEBN with many of its biggest laughs. And lawsuits.
Jay was born in Philadelphia around 1908, negotiated the end of both World Wars I and II, patented Velcro, framed Richard Nixon, and invented those little wicker paper-plate holders. With no challenges left in life he decided to become a DJ on 102.7 FM.
Every afternoon from 3 until 7, Jay pumps out the rock, crams in Toad Rage Traffic reports, news updates as they're needed (hardly ever), and says funny things. When we complain that we wish he was funnier and we think he's a little lazy in that department, he says he holds back on his funniest thoughts because he doesn't want to cause a traffic accident and get us sued. That works, we leave him alone.
