Cubs, D-backs wearing 100-year-old throwback jerseys for Wrigley Field's birthday

For Wrigley Field's 100th anniversary, being celebrated Wednesday by the Chicago Cubs, it's probably not a huge surprise that the team chose to wear throwback jerseys. But the specific jerseys that the Cubs and the opposing Arizona Diamondbacks donned aren't your average MLB throwbacks.

The Cubs won't be wearing Cubs jerseys at all and the D-backs won't be representing Arizona, rather Kansas City. The teams are honoring the first major-league game played at Wrigley Field, back on April 23, 1914. It was actually called Weeghman Field back then, and the Chicago Federals played the Kansas City Packers in the first game. Both teams were from the Federal League.

Check out the threads:

The jerseys the Cubs are wearing are particularly sharp. The team is also giving out replicas to the first 30,000 fans inside the Wrigley Field gates.

The attention-to-detail for the Wrigley 100th is admirable. The Cubs grounds crew is wearing Weeghman Park jackets and the teams are wearing retro batting helmets too.

The fans also sang Happy Birthday to the ball park.
