The Youth Academy will be a facility featuring year-round baseball and softball instruction and educational programs for Cincinnati youth ages six to 18. The complex will have four fields and a 33,000 square foot building with batting cages, pitching tunnels, and a full indoor field.

In October, P&G committed $2 million to the Reds and the Reds Community Fund’s P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy. Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced in January that MLB is providing the Youth Academy with $1.5.

“Major League Baseball is proud to join the Reds and their local partners in making this significant investment and commitment to the young people of Greater Cincinnati,” commissioner Selig said. “The Cincinnati Urban Youth Academy will be a wonderful addition to the organization’s rich history, and we are very pleased that our latest project will be the first in the Midwest. Our Academy will instill values in the children of Cincinnati and provide a valuable perspective on opportunities in baseball and beyond.”

The P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy is also supported by the City of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, Reds owners and players, including Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, and Brandon Phillips.

The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2015.
